Goalkeeper Matt Yates is now in his fourth season as a permanent member of Derby County’s Under-23s squad.
The shot-stopper has spent much of the last two seasons out on loan gaining valuable first-team experience.
In the 2018/19 campaign he had loan spells at non-league sides Gloucester City and Hereford FC, while the 2019/20 season saw him link up with AFC Telford United.
Whilst out on loan, Yates continued to train with Derby’s goalkeepers on a regular basis and also featured in a handful of Under-23s fixtures.
After signing his first professional contract in May 2017, Yates stepped up to the Under-23s squad on a permanent basis for the start of the 2017/18 campaign.
A consistent starter for the Under-18s throughout his scholarship, Yates has been on the books of the Derby County Academy since the age of nine and is the son of the club’s former defender Dean Yates.
The goalkeeper has also represented England at Under-16s and Under-17s levels.
