Morgan Whittaker is one of a number of players to have progressed from Derby County’s Academy and into the first-team squad in recent seasons.
The striker scored 24 goals from just 37 appearances for Derby’s Under-18 and Under-23 teams combined during the 2018/19 season. He also claimed 16 assists, taking his goal contributions for the season to 40.
He played a key role in the Under-18s winning the Under-18 Premier League North and subsequently becoming National Champions with a 5-2 hammering of Arsenal, in which he scored twice, at Pride Park Stadium in May 2019.
It was that form which fired him into first-team contention under Phillip Cocu, who handed him his professional debut as a substitute in the side’s 1-0 Carabao Cup First Round win at Scunthorpe United in August 2019.
Whittaker went on to make 21 appearances in all competitions during the season, with the vast majority coming off the bench. He netted his first professional goal on the final day of the campaign with a header in Derby’s 3-1 victory at Birmingham City.
He penned a new contract during the campaign and looks to have a bright future in the game.
Whittaker has also been capped by England at Under-16, Under-17, Under-18 and Under-19 level as a reward for his progress and development with Derby.
