Nigel Clough hopes the two-week international break will give injured trio Jamie Ward, Frank Fielding and Gareth Roberts the chance to return to full fitness.
Striker Ward has missed Derby’s last two games, against Middlesbrough and Brighton & Hove Albion, with a hamstring injury while goalkeeper Fielding and Roberts sat out the goalless draw with Brighton due to respective groin and hamstring complaints.
With Derby not in action this week due to the international window, the Rams are not in action again until 20th October when promotion hopefuls Blackburn Rovers head to Pride Park Stadium.
Clough is hopeful that all three players will be available to face Blackburn or, if not, shortly after the international break.
He said: “We’ll know more at the start of next week but we’d hope to have one or two, if not all three, of them back for Blackburn – but at the moment that’s guesswork more than anything.
“We hope to have them back, but it obviously depends how their rehabilitation work goes with the medical team.”
Clough also believes 17-year-old midfielder Will Hughes will be available for the Blackburn game, having had to come off at half-time against Brighton with a slight knee problem.
He said: “Will had been carrying the injury for a few weeks but it got a little too sore for him against Brighton, so we’re confident the two-week break will give him the chance to get that sorted.”
