Richard Keogh has been appointed as Derby County’s captain.

The 29-year-old defender has made 180 appearances for the club since joining from Coventry City in the summer of 2012.

He has been an ever-present in Derby’s Sky Bet Championship season so far, appearing in all 30 games at the heart of the defence.

The Republic of Ireland international, who played a key role in his country’s 2016 European Championships qualification campaign, accepted the offer of the captaincy from Head Coach Darren Wassall last night.

Winner of the Jack Stamps Trophy in the 2012/13 campaign, Keogh previously wore the armband during the 2012/13, 2013/14 and 2014/15 seasons.

A vastly experienced figure both on and off the pitch, Keogh is four appearances away from reaching 450 club outings.
