The 25-year-old, who can play out wide or as a striker, has joined Derby from French top flight side Angers SCO for an undisclosed fee.
The player was at the Training Centre today to pass a medical and sign all the relevant paperwork to join the club on a three-and-a-half year contract.
His arrival adds to the exciting attacking talent already at Head Coach Paul Clement’s disposal as Derby aim to remain firmly in the Sky Bet Championship’s promotion race.
Camara was a key part of Angers’ promotion-winning campaign to Ligue 1 last season and he has impressed in the French top flight this time around, appearing 17 times and scoring twice.
His performances have helped Angers reach third place in the table and as a result he has attracted interest from a number of clubs in both France and England.
Head Coach Paul Clement said: “Abdoul Camara is a player that we have been monitoring closely and we’re pleased to welcome him to Derby County.
“He has performed very well in Ligue 1 this year and we feel that he has the right attributes to make an impact in a Derby shirt.
“I am sure he will settle in well and be an important part of the squad in the second half of the season and into the future.”
Camara, who was born in Guinea but moved to France as a child, began his professional career at Rennes.
He came through their youth system and made 32 appearances for their first team between 2008 and 2011 - as well as spending the 2009/10 season on loan at Vannes and also playing for Rennes B.
In August 2011 he joined Sochaux for a fee of €1.5 Million and remained with the club for three seasons, making 53 appearances.
During that time, he also went out on loan to PAOK in Greek Superleague and RCD Mallorca in Spain’s Secunda Division.
At the end of his contract at Sochaux he moved to Angers and in his first season with the club he made 28 appearances, scoring six times, and helped them finish third in Ligue 2, securing promotion to the top flight.
Camera has represented his country on ten occasions, scoring four times, after making his debut at the African Cup of Nations in 2012.
