Derby County’s Under-18s beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 5-3 in an eventful Premier League - North match on Tuesday.

A brace from both Tyree Wilson and Morgan Whittaker following Jayden Mitchell-Lawson’s opener at Molineux saw the Rams score five for a second time against Wolves this season.

Derby didn’t have to wait long to break the deadlock through Mitchell-Lawson. The winger found himself with space on the edge of the box following a fast counter-attack and curled home with great precision.

It was two just a few minutes later. The ball broke to Wilson on the right side of the area and he was able to use his marker well to place a shot into the far corner and give his side the perfect start to the game.

Derby would add a third after 31 minutes as Whittaker grabbed himself a goal. The forward, who scored a hat-trick last time out, took advantage of some nervous Wolves defending and finishing coolly with just the keeper to beat.

Wolves pulled a goal back just before the break when Luke Cundle fired in after collecting a loose ball outside the area.

Justin Walker and Rory Delap’s side continued their imperious form in the second-half. They added a fourth goal as a driving run and clever pass from Jason Knight set up Wilson for his second of the game.

Two quick goals then made the score 5-2. First, Whittaker completed his brace after great link-up play with Archie Brown and then Austin Samuels reduced the arrears again with Wolves second goal.

There was still time for a late Wolves penalty, and Samuels squeezed his spot kick in via the hand of Matt Yates.

What’s To Come…

The result against Wolves in the penultimate fixture of the season sees the Rams move onto 33 points and sit in sixth place in the Premier League - North table.

Their final fixture of the 2017/18 season is next weekend, as they travel to face Manchester City EDS away from home.

When the two sides met at the Derby County Training Centre back in December, Derby triumphed 2-0 thanks to an early brace from midfielder Knight.
