Matchday Travel Plan

Derby County Football Club works closely with Derby City Council, Derbyshire Constabulary, local transport operators and supporters to help develop and maintain an effective Travel Plan for the club.

With up to 32,000 supporters travelling to Pride Park Stadium on matchdays, the club is conscious of its impact on the environment and the disruption that matchdays can cause for local residents and businesses.

Supporters are encouraged to travel by public transport or other sustainable methods wherever possible and to avoid travelling by car unless necessary. This helps reduce traffic congestion around the stadium and surrounding areas.

For supporters who need to travel by car, matchday parking is available around Pride Park Stadium. Further information can be found under the Travel by Car and Matchday Parking (At the Stadium) sections.

Derby County’s Travel Plan aims to reduce traffic congestion around Pride Park Stadium and improve the matchday experience for supporters, residents and visitors.

The plan focuses on the following key objectives:

  • Improving supporter travel options, with a focus on walking, cycling, public transport and car-sharing.
  • Reducing the number of vehicles arriving at Pride Park Stadium and surrounding areas on matchdays.
  • Enhancing matchday traffic management to improve road safety around the stadium.
  • Relocating home supporter coach parking closer to the stadium.
  • Improving the management of matchday parking to minimise congestion and assist with smoother departures after matches.

In the interest of pedestrian safety, a traffic exclusion zone operates around Pride Park Stadium on matchdays. This is typically in place from 90 minutes before kick-off until up to 60 minutes after the final whistle, although timings may vary depending on traffic and pedestrian movement on Derwent Parade and Royal Way.

Please also note that, as part of the club’s matchday traffic management agreement with Derby City Council, a dynamic risk assessment is in operation. This means road closures may be implemented earlier than the final whistle if it is considered necessary to ensure supporter safety.

For those supporters purchasing matchday car parking within Car Park A or Car Park B will also benefit from enhanced Traffic Management at Islands 1, 2 and 4 on Pride Park, meaning people parking here should be able to enjoy both the shortest walk to the stadium. This period of time will be dependent upon the size of the crowd on the day and the number of supporters leaving the area.

Please note that this is to allow for the safety of pedestrians leaving the stadium.
