Match Report

Derby County Under-18s were beaten 5-0 at high-flying Newcastle United in Premier League - North on Saturday afternoon.

Bradley Johnson’s side made the long journey north having won three of their previous four league matches, including back-to-back victories over Stoke City and Wolverhampton Wanderers prior to the November international window.

They were also seeking a quickfire response to exiting the Premier League Cup last weekend, bowing out at the group stages following a 2-1 loss at Tottenham Hotspur.

However, they faced a tough test against a Newcastle side sitting second in the league table with six wins from their nine matches prior to kick-off and finding themselves only behind pacesetters Manchester City in the standings.

Sam Pinnington put Newcastle ahead just before the half-hour mark and the home side went on to further strengthen their grip on proceedings when Matheos Ferreira found the back of the net a few minutes later.

The Magpies added a third straight after the half-time break through Kacey Wooster and a fourth goal arrived before the hour mark courtesy of Alfie Seldon.

Pinnington made it 5-0 bang on the hour mark as the home side piled forward in numbers and displayed a ruthless edge in the final third.

No further goals followed in the latter half an hour as the hosts cruised to a convincing victory.
