Dawkins In Line To Make International Debut For Jamaica

Forward lands international call-up after an impressive first season with Derby.

Simon Dawkins is in line to become the latest international player on the books at Derby County.

The 26-year-old forward has been named in the Jamaica squad for their international friendly against Serbia today (26th May 2014) at the Red Bull Arena in New Jersey.

Although Dawkins was born in London he is eligible to represent Jamaica because both his grandparents were born in Jamaica.

He could have further opportunities to make his mark on the international stage this summer as Jamaica also have friendly matches against Switzerland (30th May), Egypt (4th June) and France (8th June), having failed to qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Dawkins flew out to team up with the Jamaica squad following Derby’s 1-0 defeat to Queens Park Rangers in the Sky Bet Championship Play-Off Final on Saturday.

After joining Derby from Tottenham Hotspur, initially on loan in October 2013 and then permanently in January of this year, Dawkins made 30 appearances for the Rams and scored on four occasions in the 2013/14 season.
