Fresh from his first real taste of football with the England national squad under manager Gareth Southgate, midfielder Mason Mount is looking forward to getting back amongst his Derby County team-mates - and he's looking to improve his overall game.

Mount was an unused substitute for the Three Lions in their UEFA Nations League games against Croatia and Spain during the October international break. After a goalless draw against Croatia, England produced a stunning display to beat Spain 3-2 on Monday night.

Whilst the young midfielder didn't come off the bench in either game, he believes he learned a lot from the senior England players and is looking to continue his development and wants to help Derby County climb the Sky Bet Championship table.

“I’m always eager to come back to training and get back into the swing of things and play some games,” he told RamsTV.

“I think I’ve started the season well, could have had a couple of goals and assists, that’s the way you look at it. I’m definitely focusing on improving my game.”

It’s an interesting period of fixtures coming up for the Rams as table-topping Sheffield United visit Pride Park Stadium on Saturday, whilst the following two fixtures are away at promotion-chasing sides West Bromwich Albion and Middlesbrough.

Whilst every game is challenging in the Championship, Mount knows to be the best, you must beat the best.

“I think throughout the season it has been tough and we’ve had some tough games but this run coming up is very important,” he commented.

“We have got to pick up some good points. We are going to play against some tough teams, but I think if we continue to prepare right then we have a good chance of winning the games.

“We want to test ourselves against the top teams. Some of those are up there in the league and that’s where our focus needs to be. We want to be at the top end of the league, so we need to beat these teams and that’s what we will be looking to do.”
