Derby County’s Louie Sibley has been nominated for the Sky Bet Championship’s Player of the Month award for June.

The 18-year-old attacking midfielder made two appearances in the Championship during June as the Rams returned to action after a three-month suspension of the season due to COVID-19.

Sibley scored a hat-trick on just his second league start in Derby’s comeback fixture at Millwall as Phillip Cocu’s side recorded a 3-2 victory at The Den.

The youngster produced a masterclass in finishing with a trip of composed finishes against the Lions.

The Academy graduate also played a key role in the home victory over Reading at the end of June, setting up Tom Lawrence’s opener as the Rams ran out 2-1 winners.

Sibley, who has stepped up to the first team fold this season, has made 13 appearances in all competitions during the campaign and scored four goals.

He has also been an ever-present in the Derby side since the resumption of the season last month, starting all five of the side’s fixtures since returning to action.

Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month nominees for June:

Rhian Brewster (Swansea City) - Striker

Demonstrated his growing maturity to score two of Swansea’s four goals. As well as his intelligent link-up play, he showed off his poacher’s instincts twice at Middlesbrough before a thunderous free-kick brought the equaliser at Millwall.

Jason Pearce (Charlton Athletic) – Defender

As solid on the ground as he is in the air, the Charlton captain was the lynchpin of a defence which kept three clean sheets in as many games. He made an impact at the other end, too, bravely nodding home the winning goal at Hull.

Louie Sibley (Derby County) – Midfielder

Emerging from lockdown with a hat-trick away at Millwall will get you noticed. The 18-year-old danced his way through for his first goal, then stroked home two more with a calm assurance before adding an assist against Reading.

Simon Sluga (Luton Town) – Goalkeeper

His early season struggles were forgotten when he emerged from the lay-off to make a string of brilliant saves as Luton continued their revival. A superb stop earned the win at Swansea, while he was outstanding in the 1-1 draw at Leeds.

The winner of the award will be announced on Friday 10th July.
