Derby County will get the 2023/24 Sky Bet League One season up and running with a home fixture against Wigan Athletic at Pride Park Stadium.


Derby's new campaign will get underway against one of three teams to come down from the Championship last term on Saturday 5th August (3pm kick-off).

Rams Team News

Attacking midfielder Louie Sibley did not feature in the Rams' pre-season games campaign owing to a calf problem and, despite being close to a return to training, he is set to miss the start of the season.


Forward Tom Barkhuizen has missed most of pre-season after injuring his calf in the opening friendly fixture against Matlock Town last month. He has picked up a further niggle after returning to training and he won't be involved this weekend.


Defender Callum Elder has returned to training after a hip injury and could be in the squad for the first time since the pre-season opener agianst Matlock.


Goalkeeper Josh Vickers is fit again after missing the final pre-season run-out against Sheffield United last weekend with a minor muscle problem.

Match Officials

Scott Oldham will take charge of Saturday’s season-opener at Pride Park Stadium.


Oldham oversaw 37 games in the 2022/23 season, showing 122 yellow cards and two reds.

One of those red cards came in Derby’s 1-1 draw at home to Lincoln City in February of this year when he dismissed Ben House for the visitors in the second half.

He will be assisted by Andrew Aylott and Declan O’Shea, while Richard Wigglesworth has been appointed as the Fourth Official
