Biography

Australian born full-back Callum Elder joined Derby County on a three-year deal in the summer of 2023 following the expiration of his contract at Championship side Hull City.

His career started off in his homeland of Australia with local side Manly United before he began attracting the interest of several clubs on this side of the world.

He moved to the UK as a 16-year-old and joined Leicester City as a scholar in 2011 before working his way through the ranks and signing his first professional contract with the Foxes upon the conclusion of the 2012/13 season.

During his time in Leicestershire, he had six loan spells at six different clubs including Championship sides Brentford and Barnsley.

His most notable loan move however came in the 2017/18 season when he joined Wigan Athletic in Sky Bet League One.

The left-back was a mainstay in the Tics side that clinched the title that year and his performances across the season saw him award a place in the Sky Bet League One Team of the Year.

In the summer of 2019 after nearly a decade with the Foxes, Elder made his first permanent move away in the UK when he joined Championship side Hull City.

He suffered relegation from the second tier in his first season with the Tigers, but the following campaign saw him repeat his success of 2017/18 and clinch his second Sky Bet League One title as Hull bounced back to the Championship at the first attempt.

With 137 appearances for the Tigers to boot and over 100 Championship appearances under his belt, the Aussie brought with him bags of experience to Derby’s back line options.

In his first season with the Rams, he made 26 appearances and provided one assist as Derby sealed promotion from League One. That one assist, however, turned out to be one of the most important of the season as he crossed for Kane Wilson to score the one and only goal of the game as Derby saw off automatic promotion rivals Bolton Wanderers at Pride Park Stadium in March.
