Rams fall to narrow defeat at St.George’s Park against York City.

Derby County’s Under 21 side tasted defeat in their opening pre-season friendly fixture on Saturday afternoon.

In a behind-closed-doors encounter at St.George’s Park in Staffordshire, Derby went down 1-0 to York City, with Ashley Chambers scoring the only goal of the game in the first half.

The Rams’ side contained professional players Tom Naylor, Michael Hoganson, Theo Robinson, Nathan Tyson and James Bailey.

The quintet remained in Derby after failing to make the 22-man squad that travelled to Ireland for the first-team’s 6-1 thrashing of Bohemians in Dublin on Saturday.

Naylor, Robinson, Tyson and Bailey were all made available for transfer this summer and got valuable match minutes under their belt, while the rest of the squad was made up of the Rams’ Under 21 squad.

The Under 21s’ next pre-season match ahead of the new season is on Tuesday 16th July 2013 against East Midlands neighbours Leicester City at Moor Farm Training Ground (11am kick-off).
