For the seventh year running, a group of Derby County volunteers are set to depart on a Kenyan Adventure.

Derby County Community Trust have teamed up with African Adventures once again to offer a group of Derby County fans and staff the chance to volunteer in rural areas of Kenya.

The trip, which will run from Saturday 19th May to Saturday 2nd June, will see the Rams in Kenya team spend 14 days volunteering at Mama Kerry, Destiny, Cherish and Ungana Schools, all based in the slums of Nakuru, Kenya’s fourth biggest city, helping to improve the schools and surrounding communities in any way possible during their visit.

The two-week trip also involves an adventure day with a visit to the equator and the Lake Nakuru National Safari Park. Volunteers can enjoy the wide ecological diversity and varied habitats of Kenya that range from Lake Nakuru and the surrounding picturesque landscapes.

Rams in Kenya was put forward as the Community Trust’s showcase project at the 2017 EFL Awards and played a huge part in the club winning Checkatrade Community Club of the Year.

Ahead of the trip, Paul Newman, from the Derby County Community Trust said: “Our annual trip to Kenya to support the children at our partner schools has become part of the fabric of what our Community Trust offers.

“It’s is incredibly rewarding and humbling for all the volunteers to experience such a different culture whilst offering long term support to the wonderful children and staff whose spirit continues to amaze every time we visit.

“For the project to be recognised both regionally and nationally at this year’s EFL Awards just shows the impact the project has had, however, as with all our work, we don’t do it for awards we do it to make a difference.

“Furthermore, it’s another wonderful example of how Derby County can reach and inspire communities, however far they may be away. The beauty is that the trip also supports initiatives at home, a percentage of funds raised by volunteers goes towards our health programmes.”
