Defender Scott Malone is to miss Derby County’s Sky Bet Championship fixture at local rivals Nottingham Forest.

The left-back sustained an injury to his knee in the second half of last weekend’s 2-0 home win over Middlesbrough.

Malone, 28, was injured in the early stages of the second period against Jonathan Woodgate’s side but carried on and was eventually replaced by Max Lowe late on.

After undergoing a scan earlier this week, Malone will sit out Derby’s trip to the City Ground and Lowe is in line to replace the former Huddersfield Town man.

Manager Phillip Cocu is optimistic that the full-back will be available later this month following the conclusion of the two-week international break, which comes into play following the Forest game.

Speaking to RamsTV, Cocu said: “Scott Malone, who came off in the last game, he will be out.

“Hopefully he will be back after the international break, but we are not sure yet.

“It’s negative news because he has done well but he’s out this weekend.”

Malone has made 11 appearances in the Championship for Derby this season, scoring once in the 1-1 draw at home to Cardiff City.

Otherwise, Cocu has confirmed he has no fresh injury concerns going into the match at the City Ground.

Tom Huddlestone (knee) and Ikechi Anya (calf) remain sidelined, while Craig Forsyth is still building up his fitness after almost a year out with a long-term knee injury.
