Derby County Football Club is saddened to have learned of the recent passing of Noel Sweeney, the founder of club partner Chasetown Civil Engineering.
Mr Sweeney, who lived in Lichfield in Staffordshire, sadly passed away at the age of 76 last week.
Chasetown is a long-standing and valued partner of the club and has been a key supporter of the Academy for many years across a variety of projects.
These have included the sponsorship of Academy teams’ shirts to working alongside the club for the continued development of the club’s training ground.
Mr Sweeney was also a season ticket holder alongside family members since Pride Park Stadium officially opened in 1997 and a club partner, through Chasetown and Cameron Homes, for in excess of 15 years.
In 2019, Mr Sweeney was honoured by the Pope for his charitable and community work.
The honour is one of five papal knighthoods of the Catholic Church and was presented by Archbishop Bernard Longley, head of the Archdiocese of Birmingham.
