Derby County Academy coach Craig Short has today left the club to take up a coaching position at Oxford United.

Short has been a part of the Rams’ youth set-up as Assistant Senior Professional Development Phase Coach since 2016.

During that time, the 52-year-old has contributed to the growth and success of the Academy which has seen several players in and around the first-team squad.

It was his second spell working with Derby’s Academy after holding the position of Head of Recruitment between September 2011 and June 2013, prior to a spell on the first-team coaching staff at Blackburn Rovers.

The former Derby defender, who racked up almost 150 appearances for the club between 1992 and 1995, predominantly worked with the Rams’ Under-23s.

Short has now linked up with League 1 side Oxford as part of Karl Robinson’s backroom team, after it was announced earlier this week that their First Team Coach Derek Fazackerley would be moving into an advisory role.

Derby County would like to wish Craig every success in his new role with Oxford and thank him for his efforts throughout his time with the club, both as a player and for his contribution to the club’s Academy development.
