Another excellent display from Derby County’s number one David Marshall helped Scotland to their second successive victory during the October international period on Sunday - this time against Slovakia in the UEFA Nations League.
The goalkeeper kept another clean sheet, his second in as many games, as Scotland ran out 1-0 winners at Hampden Park to remain top of Group B2 at the half-way point of the competition.
Queens Park Rangers striker Lyndon Dykes scored the only goal of the game, converting from Stephen O’Donnell’s cross to earn Scotland all three points, however, it wasn’t all plain sailing.
Marshall, who earned his 38th cap for Scotland in the game, had to be alert on a number of occasions to thwart the visitors but it was Steve Clarke’s side who came away with valuable victory and extend their unbeaten run in all competitions to six games.
Scotland now face second-placed Czech Republic on Wednesday knowing a victory could put them four points clear at the top of the table with only two games remaining.
Elsewhere, Rams winger Kamil Jozwiak played 83 minutes for Poland in their goalless draw against Italy in the UEFA Nations League on Sunday.
Jozwiak, who joined Derby from Lech Poznan in September, earned his fifth cap for Jerzy Brzęczek’s side. Poland were unable to break down the stubborn Italian defence and had to settle for a draw.
The result means Poland have picked up four points from their opening three games of the competition and face Bosnia & Herzegovina on Wednesday.
