It was not just Gary Rowett’s first team that enjoyed that winning feeling over the weekend.

Whilst they defeated 2. Bundesliga outfit Kaiserslautern in Germany, Derby County’s Under-23s and Under-18s also capped off a good Saturday for the club by recording their own convincing pre-season wins on Saturday.

Darren Wassall’s side defeated Chivas Deportivo Guadalajara Academy 3-0 at the Training Centre in partnership with the University of Derby.

Emil Riis Jakobsen opened the scoring with a cool finish from 12-yards out, before Lewis Walker added a second with a lobbed finish over the goalkeeper after latching on to a precise ball over the backline.

Timi Max Elsnik smacked the post with a penalty after that, but Offrande Zanzala did round off the scoring with a close-range conversion.

Elsewhere, Justin Walker’s and Rory Delap’s Under-18s also ran out 3-0 winners away at Carlisle United, thanks to goals from Brandon Hitchman, Jack Haywood and a trialist in Cumbria.

Both age groups return to action over the coming days.

Wassall’s Under-23s will face Sky Bet League 2 side Swindon Town at the Training Centre tomorrow (Tuesday 25th July, kick-off: 2pm), whilst Under-18s travel to Birmingham City on Wednesday 26th, kick-off: 12pm.
