Young shot-stopper Roos delighted to head back to his old stomping ground.
Goalkeeper Kelle Roos admits that featuring against former club Nuneaton Town this evening (7:45pm kick-off) will be a special occasion for the 22-year-old.
Roos signed a two-and-a-half year deal with the Rams in January after a successful trial with the Club for an undisclosed fee, leaving Conference Premier outfit Nuneaton.
Upon joining Nuneaton, Roos kept three clean sheets in his first three league matches for the Boro, and ahead of Tuesday night’s pre-season friendly between the two teams, Roos says he is relishing the prospect of returning the Sperrin Brewery Stadium.
Roos told
Rams Player:“Yes it will be nice to go back, it is where it all started for me in England.“Of course the game is more special to me than the other lads - I am really looking forward to it.“Nuneaton gave me the opportunity to play in England, the chance to get some pro football and it worked perfectly.“It was for a short period in my career, but I was really happy there. “We went on a great run in the League, I kept a lot of clean sheets and the players in front of me defended well. It was just unlucky that they didn't get in the Play-Offs last year.”Roos, who began his career in his native homeland at PSV Eindhoven, says he is enjoying his opportunity in the side during pre-season, with fellow shot-stopper Lee Grant ruled out of the early matches, after undergoing a minor, routine knee operation.
Roos added:
“When I first signed for the Club, full-time training was tough - tough on the body as well. I did a lot of weight sessions with [Eric] Steele and Steve Haines [Strength and Condition Coach].“The plan has always been to get closer to the first-team. It is very nice for me to get minutes under my belt and play with the first-team players during these friendlies.“I am gaining experience all the time and doing the best I can to challenge for the number one spot.”Watch the full interview with Kelle Roos exclusively on Rams Player.
