Derby County have signed highly-rated Manchester United wideman Jesse Lingard on loan for the remainder of the 2014/15 season.

The 22-year-old, who has progressed through the famous youth ranks at Old Trafford, completed the formalities of the move this evening after signing a new contract with United.

Lingard, who has also been capped by England at Under 21 level, will add strength the attacking options available to Head Coach Steve McClaren in the remaining months of the campaign.

He is the second Deadline Day arrival at the iPro Stadium following the capture of Hull City’s Tom Ince on loan for the rest of the season earlier in the day.

McClaren commented: “Jesse Lingard is an exciting talent and someone that we are looking forward to working with.

“He strengthens the attacking options that we can call upon and given we’ve lost Jordon Ibe and Johnny Russell in the last few weeks it was important to strengthen in that particular area of the side.”

He added: “I would like to thank Sam Rush and the Ownership Group here at Derby County for their backing throughout the course of the January Transfer Window, where we have made some key signings.

“Chris Evans and his scouting team have worked extremely hard behind the scenes to ensure that the Transfer Window has been a successful one for Derby County.”

Lingard was part of the Manchester United FA Youth Cup winning side of 2010/11, before signing professional terms with the Red Devils.

His first taste of first-team experience came at Leicester City in the Championship in 2012/13, but it was in 2013/14 that he made a real impact in English football’s second tier during two separate loan spells.

After joining Birmingham City on loan in September 2013 he scored four goals on his debut against Sheffield Wednesday, and went on to score two more goals in a 13 game loan stint in the West Midlands.

He spent the final three months of last season on loan at Brighton & Hove Albion, where he scored four times in 17 appearances, with his final goal coming against Derby in the Play-Off Semi Finals at the Amex Stadium.

Lingard returned to Old Trafford last summer and impressed new boss Louis Van Gaal sufficiently to be handed his first appearance for Manchester United on the opening day of the season against Swansea City, but he was unlucky to suffer an injury in the first half that forced him to be substituted.
