Stephen Warnock started his tenth consecutive game to help Wigan Athletic to a 4-0 victory over Blackpool – a result that sealed the Latics’ promotion back to the Sky Bet Championship.
The full back, who linked up with Gary Caldwell’s side on loan until the end of the season back in March, helped Wigan to their seventh win in the period that he has been at the club.
The 34-year-old will now be hoping to help them seal the League 1 title at the DW Stadium when they face Barnsley this weekend.
In League 2, there was also good news for Kelle Roos and AFC Wimbledon as they cemented their own play-off berth.
The young Dutch goalkeeper kept his fifth straight in the process as the Dons’ 0-0 draw at Stevenage ensured they will extend their campaign by a further two games at the very least.
The outing at the weekend was Roos’ 17th since joining the club in February.
A division further down, however, Shaquille McDonald could not help prevent FC Halifax Town from being relegated as they drew 1-1 at home to Macclesfield Town.
The young forward started for the Shaymen, his 15th competitive appearance for the club, but their draw, coupled with results going against them elsewhere, saw them relegated on the final day of the season.
McDonald’s season is not over just yet, though, as he and his Halifax colleagues turn their attention to their FA Trophy Final against Grimsby Town at Wembley later this month.
In the Championship, Alex Pearce helped Bristol City to an emphatic victory as the Robins recorded a 4-0 win over Huddersfield Town.
It was the 27-year-old Republic of Ireland international defender’s second start for Bristol City since linking up with the side until the end of the season in January.
Elsewhere, Ryan Shotton made his sixth consecutive start for Birmingham City as they played out a thrilling 2-2 draw at home to Middlesbrough.
In total, the former Stoke defender has now made nine appearances for Gary Rowett’s outfit since making the short move to the Blues towards the end of January.
In La Liga, Raul Albentosa made his 30th appearance of a fruitful loan move back in his homeland as he helped Malaga secure a 3-1 victory over Levante.
Mason Bennett (Injured) and Conor Sammon (Unused) were not involved at the weekend for Burton Albion and Sheffield United respectively.
