Max Lowe Signs New Long-Term Contract At Derby County

Derby County is delighted to announce that Academy graduate Max Lowe has signed a new long-term deal with the club.

The 19-year-old left-back, who made his full league debut for Derby in their win at Cardiff City earlier this week, has put pen-to-paper on a contract which will run until the summer of 2020.

The England Under 20 international joined the club at the age of ten and has progressed right through the Academy system and into the first-team set-up.

He signed professional terms in the summer of 2015, after completing two years as a scholar, and has been capped by England at various youth levels.

He made his professional debut in August during Derby’s EFL Cup Round Two tie against Carlisle United and also came off the bench as the Rams faced Liverpool in Round Three earlier this month.

Lowe’s first league start came on Tuesday evening as he produced an impressive display as Derby claimed a 2-0 win at Cardiff.

Derby County’s President & Chief Executive Sam Rush: “It’s fantastic news that one of our exciting young players has committed their long-term future to the club.

“We’re really pleased with the progress that Max has made and he showed his qualities in the game at Cardiff City on Tuesday night, as he did in the two EFL Cup ties he featured in beforehand, and rightly deserved the praise that he received for his performance.

“The fact he has been with us from the age of 10 and made his way through the system is testimony to the environment that has been created and developed within our Academy, which is very much part of our Chairman Mel Morris’ vision for Derby County.

“We are all looking forward to seeing more of Max in a Derby County shirt in the months and years ahead.”

After putting pen-to-paper, Lowe said: “I am delighted to have signed this new contract with Derby County.

“I am so proud to represent this club and I know that the hard work very much starts now for me.

“I really hope, having made my league debut and also signing this new contract, that this is just the start for me and I know that I still have lots to learn as a player.

“It has been a great journey for me to get to this stage, having joined at the age of 10, but I know I’ve not achieved anything yet and I’ll continue to work extremely hard.

“I believe this is the best place for me and Derby County has a proven track record of developing young players from the Academy and integrating them into the first-team.

“When you look around this club, with the infrastructure and the facilities that we are so lucky to have at the stadium and also the Training Centre, it really is a great place to be as a player.

“We have a number of experienced and quality players in the dressing room and i know that I can only benefit from working alongside them every day.”

He added: “It was a great feeling to make my full debut in midweek and it was a very proud moment for me, my family and also the Academy as well.

“It has been a well to remember but, as I have said quite a few times already, I know that there’s plenty more hard work ahead for me.”
