Derby County’s Ikechi Anya came off the bench for the final 15 minutes as Scotland claimed a much-needed 1-0 home win against Slovenia on Sunday evening.
Anya, despite a Man of the Match display at right-back as Gordon Strachan’s side drew 1-1 with Canada in a friendly last week, had to be content with a place on the bench for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifier at Hampden Park.
The wideman came on for the latter stages to win his 26th international cap and had a chance to score with his first touch with a shot from inside the box, which forced the Slovenian goalkeeper into action.
However, it was Derby's out-on-loan striker Chris Martin, who is with Fulham until the end of the season, that scored an 88th minute winner with a low shot which found the far corner - only minutes after coming off the bench himself.
The result leaves Scotland sat 4th in Group F ahead of their next qualifier, which is at home to England in June.
Anya will now return to Derby and re-join Gary Rowett’s squad as preparations continue for Friday’s Sky Bet Championship home fixture against Queens Park Rangers.
