Gary Rowett is of the belief that Matej Vydra’s hamstring injury isn’t too serious - but is insure if he’ll be available for this weekend’s home game against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Czech Republic international forward was injured in training on Monday and, as a result, sat out the abandoned Carabao Cup First Round tie with Grimsby Town at Blundell Park on Tuesday night.

Rowett says the frontman is having his fitness assessed, but admits at this early stage he is unsure if he will be available for Saturday’s Pride Park Stadium fixture.

He told RamsTV: “It was a disappointment for Vyds to tweak his hamstring in training on Monday.

“I don’t think it’s too serious and we feel it’s more with the nerve than the muscle.

“We’re hoping it clears up but whether it does in time for Saturday, we don’t know.”

Rowett has admitted that Vydra was set to start at Grimsby.

He impressed when coming off the bench at Sunderland last Friday in their 2017/18 Sky Bet Championship opener.

Vydra set up a late chance for Chris Martin with a forceful run as Derby chased a winning goal at the Stadium of Light.

He said: “I was looking forward to seeing Matej play at Grimsby, although he would have only had 19 minutes as it turned out with the game being rained off.

“He looked bright when he came on at Sunderland.”
