Top English referee Martin Atkinson has been appointed to take charge of Derby County’s Sky Bet Championship clash with Bristol City this Saturday.

Atkinson has officiated just two games so far this season – both coming in the Premier League – and has produced five yellow and one red card in those matches.

Over the last few years, the 46-year-old official has predominantly refereed in the top-flight, but has also been the man making the decisions in a number of high-profile competitions, at both club and international level, such as the Champions League, European Championships and World Cup.

His last Derby game came way back in August 2009, when he officiated the Rams’ 3-2 defeat to Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

Atkinson will be assisted by Peter Kirkup and Tim Wood on the lines, whilst Chris Kavanagh has been appointed as the fourth official.
