TRANSFER NEWS: Introducing...Charlie Taylor

Derby County’s defensive ranks have been reinforced with the arrival of Charlie Taylor.

Taylor became John Eustace’s second signing of the 2026/27 summer window and brings vast experience, having registered over 150 appearances in both Premier League and Sky Bet Championship competition.

A left-back who can also operate in the centre of defence, Taylor will join the Rams First Team squad in 2026/27 pre-season.

Charlie Taylor In Profile

York-born Taylor began his career on the books of Leeds United.

He made his way up the ranks through the Yorkshire club’s Academy and made his first team debut aged just 17 in 2012.

Later that year, he gained first-team experience across loan spells with Bradford City and York City in League Two.

In 2013, a loan to Scottish Premiership side Inverness Caledonian Thistle followed before a return to League Two action with Fleetwood Town.

International recognition also came the defender’s way at a young age, as he earned caps for England’s Under-19 squad.

After developing out on loan, Taylor went on to play a total of 104 times for his boyhood club, and he caught the eye of Premier League side Burnley in July 2017.

For seven seasons, the defender became a stalwart for the Clarets; he made 220 appearances for the Turf Moor club, including six seasons in the top flight and a promotion-winning campaign in the Championship, as well as making five appearances in the UEFA Europa League Qualifying Round.

A move to the South Coast came next as Southampton snapped up Taylor ahead of the 2024/25 season.

He featured 11 times for the Saints before making a loan switch to West Bromwich Albion the following season, where he was utilised 26 times in the Championship for the Baggies.

He has put pen to paper on a contract that brings him to Derby ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
