Derby County’s Under-16s have this morning made the trip to Italy to participate in the newly-formed Ferretti Cup.

Based in Rimini, the tournament welcomes sides from England and regional Italian football clubs.

Managed by Danny Holmes and Des Walker, the Under-16s will spend a total of four days in Italy, experiencing the culture of another country as well as competing for the prospect of silverware.

In total, there are six teams participating in the competition. These include local sides Rimini F.C, Alma Juventus Fano, Santarcangelo Calcio as well as English-based sides Stevenage and Luton Town.

And the action for the Rams begins straight away as they face a warm-up game against Stevenage this afternoon before the beginning of the tournament on Tuesday.

In terms of the competition format, each of the six teams are split into two groups of three and the two winners will advance into the final on Wednesday at the 7,000 seater Nicoletti Stadium in Riccione.
