Gary Rowett says Matej Vydra has got what it takes to be ‘the best number 10 in the Sky Bet Championship’.

The Czech Republic international forward has been impressive form so far this season in a Derby County shirt.

After by his own admission taking time to find his feet at Pride Park Stadium since joining from Watford last summer, the frontman has hit the ground running this term.

Vydra has scored six times in 10 appearances so far this term in all competitions, including the opener after just 24 seconds in Sunday’s 2-0 home win over local rivals Nottingham Forest.

The 25-year-old has been utilised in the ‘number 10’ role in behind the main striker under Rowett, following his appointment in March, and the Derby boss feels he has all the qualities to star in that position.

"It was a fantastic goal from Matej and he’s got a few important ones for us this season,” he told the media after the win over Forest.

“I said to him the other day that he's got everything to be the best number 10 in this division.

"Both of his feet are fantastic; he can run, he's quick and powerful.

“I think he showed that ability for that first goal.”

Four of Vydra’s six goals so far this term have come on home turf, in the home wins over Preston North End, Hull City and Forest.
