The Derby 10k raised more than £30,000 to kick off Derby County Community Trust’s tenth anniversary celebrations.
Sunday 15th April saw the Community Trust host their first ever Central Health Derby 10K.
Over 5,000 runners descended on Pride Park to take on the 10 kilometre route around Derby.
The Community Trust’s merge with local charity, Sporting Futures, in September 2017 saw the event fall within the Trust’s delivery.
With April marking ten years of being a charity for the Derby County Community Trust, an event as large and well recognised as the Derby 10K provided the perfect way to kickstart celebrations.
The day was a huge success and raised over £30,000 for the Derby County Community Trust which will now be reinvested into the community to improve lives through sport, physical activity and education.
Special guests including Derby County Chairman Mel Morris CBE, The Mayor of Derby John Whitby, Police and Crime Commissioner for Derbyhire Hardyal Dhindsa and Central Health Director Kevin Huffington were on hand to start the event, with Mayor John Whitby even taking part and completing the race in 59 minutes and 2 seconds.
On starting the race Mel Morris said: "It's a fantastic event for the city and is so good to see so many turning out for a great cause."
Head of Community at Derby County Community Trust Simon Carnall said: “It’s been buzzing around the stadium today, to have over 5,000 people taking part in the 10k and the fun run has been unbelievable.
“It’s a fantastic event for the health and wellbeing of the city.
“It was great that the Central Health Derby 10K kicked off our ten-year celebrations of being a charity. We are delighted that we have such a huge event to start us off.”
