First Team Coach Chris Jones is excited to be working at Derby County alongside Frank Lampard and Jody Morris, as the management team continue to work the players hard in Tenerife.

Jones joined the Rams from Chelsea after spending over a decade at Stamford Bridge, where he worked alongside both Lampard and Morris.

After spending such a long period in West London, Jones is ready to take on a new challenge and he explained the key aspects that convinced him to make the move to Pride Park Stadium.

Speaking to RamsTV, he said: “I’m very excited to be here, it’s a fantastic club with brilliant history, so I’m really looking forward to the season.

“I began at Fulham, and I was there for nearly four years, and then I went to Chelsea and ended up spending 12 years there.

“I saw a lot of change over the years, with lots of managers and a lot of things to tap into, in terms of experience and different ways of working, which is really useful for what we can bring here.

“I worked with Frank during my time there and Jody as well, so it’s an exciting group to be working with.

“After a long period at Chelsea, it was a good time to take on a new challenge.

“The timing is right, and it was a bonus that it’s this club, with so much history and potential.”

Jones was speaking shortly after the Rams completed their first session on day two in Tenerife, so what has the coach made of the training camp so far?

“We all have a different skillset and we spoke a lot before we came out here about how the sessions would look,” he explained.

“Frank is very open and he wants us to be asking questions all the time, he has an idea and he will share that, and day-to-day, he wants constant feedback.

“He wants ideas, things that we have noticed and our opinions, which is a great way of working.

“We have seen a really good work ethic and a nice vibe amongst the group.

“We’re looking to instil a way of playing, which is fast, attacking football.
