Derby County Under-23s are back in league action following the Christmas break as they face Swansea City this evening at Loughborough University (7pm kick off).

Darren Wassall’s side have taken a break from the league and cup action over the Christmas period but tonight they face a Swansea City side who sit bottom of the table.

Here, dcfc.co.uk has everything you need to know ahead of the clash.

SETTING THE SCENE…

In the league, Derby County's Under-23s are flying. They sit second in Premier League 2 Division 1, two points behind league leaders Everton.

They won seven of their opening 12 games in the league, however, two successive defeats have seen them knocked off top spot.

Successive 1-0 defeats against Manchester City and Everton have seen them replaced at the summit, however, they face Swansea this evening who sit bottom of the table.

The Swans have only picked up one win this season and sit seven points adrift. Earlier in the season, the Rams were held to a 1-1 draw against their opponents in Wales.

Speaking to RamsTV, Wassall said: “The lads have had a well-deserved break. They have been in four or five days over Christmas to make sure that they don’t just have a full two weeks off.

“Even though we haven’t played in two or three weeks, the lads are raring to go. We are fit and ready and hopefully we can start the year off in style against Swansea.

“We can’t fault the player’s attitude since the start of the season and we are asking for more of the same from them. Hopefully the players can kick on and we can keep on improving. We want to take the confidence from the first half of the season into January and beyond.”
