Harry Wilson fired Derby County to a 2-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers with an added-time brace to see the Rams back into the play-off places.

The Welshman bagged his 15th and 16th goals of the season in the nine minutes of extra time that was added to the game.

Jayden Bogle was brought down in the penalty area for Wilson to tuck home the opening goal from the spot kick, before just as coolly as the first, he fired in his second.

The victory means Derby leapfrogged both Bristol City and Middlesbrough in the Sky Bet Championship standings to move to eighth with three games remaining.

The Rams looked to take the lead inside the opening five minutes when Harry Wilson was awarded a free-kick to the right of the box after being hauled down by Geoff Cameron. Wilson lifted the free-kick into the area and Martyn Waghorn got a slight touch on it as it evaded Joe Lumley before being cleared.

Tom Lawrence struck wide for the Rams in the 13th minute after jumping onto the ball just outside the area when it came loose as Mason Mount was brought down.

Luke Freeman had chances either side of the half an hour mark for the visitors striking wide both times.

Derby built into the game heading into the break. Mount broke forwards after QPR’s free-kick was cleared down the other end, but the midfielder’s shot from range was a comfortable save for Lumley.

In the 52nd minute, another Wilson free-kick looked to put the Rams ahead. He rifled a low effort from 30 yards out towards the bottom right corner, which Lumley palmed wide.

The Rs best chance of the game came 20 minutes into the second-half when Tomer Hemed slid in to meet Bright Osayi-Samuel’s cross at the far post but arrived just a fraction of a second too late to convert it.

Two minutes later, Wilson was hauled down to the right of the area by Massimo Luongo and whipped his free-kick effort goalbound and Lumley punched away.

The Rams kept pressing and in the 70th minute, Mount was played clear through in the area but his chipped effort struck the post.

Derby’s patience payed off late on when Jayden Bogle was brought down in the penalty area and the referee awarded the spot kick. Wilson finally broke the deadlock in extra time when he tucked his penalty kick effort into the bottom corner.

Marriott looked to quickly double the lead when he switched foot and fired from range just wide, as did David Nugent when he struck across goal and just past the far post.

However, it was Wilson to again find the back of the net after Marriott surged forwards and fed out to Wilson who coolly fired the Rams to victory ahead of a crucial meeting with Bristol City next weekend.
