Jason Knight has been named in the Republic of Ireland Under-21 squad for the first time ahead of 2019 Toulon Tournament.

The 18-year-old midfielder has already been capped at Under-17, Under-18 and Under-19 level, and an injury to Aston Villa midfielder Jake Doyle-Hayes means that he could be in line to make his Under-21 debut at the prestigious tournament in France.

Ireland have been drawn in Group C, with Stephen Kenny's side set to open their campaign against China on 3rd June, before going on to face Mexico and Bahrain.

This selection is unlikely to affect Knight's expected participation in the 2019 UEFA European Under-19 Championship, after he featured in five out of six qualifiers for the tournament that begins in July, hosted by Armenia.

Knight played a key role in Derby County Under-18s' season of unprecedented success, as Justin Walker's secured the Premier League title and qualification for the UEFA Youth League with a stunning 5-2 win against Arsenal at Pride Park Stadium two weeks ago.

He was also included in the Frank Lampard's first team matchday squad for the first time when Derby faced Leeds United at Elland Road in the Sky Bet Championship Play-Off Semi-Finals.
