Former Derby County defenders Michael Johnson and Chris Powell have joined the England coaching set-up as part of their Elite Coach Placement Programme.

Johnson - who served as captain of the Rams and is now a Club Ambassador and regular pundit on RamsTV - guided Guyana to their first ever major international tournament in the summer, and he will now join up with Aidy Boothroyd's Under-21 squad for the 2019/20 campaign.

The Young Lions will begin their 2021 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying campaign on Friday against Turkey.

49-year-old Powell made over 100 Derby appearances between 1996 and 1998 and was Assistant Manager at Pride Park under Nigel Pearson and Steve McClaren during the 2016/17 season.

He also won five caps for England, and he will return to the senior set-up at part of Gareth Southgate's coaching staff as they look to continue their perfect start to UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying.

Derby County would like to wish both of our former players all the best in their new roles.
