Jason Knight is relishing what is set to be a big night at Pride Park Stadium on Thursday as Derby County face Premier League giants Manchester United in the Fifth Round of the Emirates FA Cup.

Knight grew up in Ireland supporting the Red Devils as a youngster and can recall memories of watching the 2007/08 United side which won the Champions League, beating Chelsea on penalties in Moscow, Russia.

In the side that night was a certain Wayne Rooney, who is set to face his former club on Thursday night.

For Knight, it is set to be a massive occasion for both himself and his family.

The Academy graduate has enjoyed a successful breakthrough season with the Rams so far, making 24 appearances for the club.

He has also contributed four goals for Derby this season with his latest coming in the 3-1 win against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

And the 19-year-old is hoping his strong performance against the Owls will be enough to earn him a starting spot against Manchester United on Thursday evening (7:45pm kick-off).

“It’s a big night and hopefully I will be in the team for that,” he admitted, talking to RamsTV following the game against Sheffield Wednesday.

“I supported them as a boy and I still am a fan but it will be a great game, hopefully. It’s a great match to be involved but we are going into on the back of a win and we are full of confidence. Let’s see what we can do.”

The two sides will play before a packed-out Pride Park Stadium as tickets have all been snapped up by both sets of supporters.

No doubt there will be an electric atmosphere on the night and it’s an evening Knight cannot wait for.

“It will be great to see the fans turn out in their thousands and it will be a great occasion,” he said.

“It will be great for the fans, the families who come and watch and hopefully we can put on a good display as well.”
