Ravanelli Scores As Derby Defeat Aston Villa On Home Turf

Pictured here is former Italy international striker Fabrizio Ravanelli scoring in Derby County’s 3-1 home victory over Aston Villa during the 2001/02 Premiership season.

Ravanelli opening the scoring with 45 minutes on the clock, but his strike was instantly cancelled out by Juan Pablo Angel's equaliser for Villa in first-half injury time.

However, Benito Carbone's first goal for Derby and Malcolm Christie's late effort were enough to secure three valuable points for Colin Todd's side.

Ravanelli ended the season as Derby’s top scorer with 11 goals in all competitions, but he was unable to help the side avoid relegation in a campaign which saw the club have three permanent managers.

Jim Smith started the campaign in charge but was replaced by Todd in the October, but his spell in the hotseat proved to be shortlived and John Gregory took charge early in 2002.
