Micklewhite Celebrates Scoring As Derby Defeat Ipswich At The Baseball Ground

Pictured here is former Derby County midfielder Gary Micklewhite celebrating his goal in the Rams’ 2-1 home victory over Ipswich Town in November 1986.

Micklewhite was joined on the scoresheet by the prolific Bobby Davison to help fire Derby to a third successive victory and push Arthur Cox’s side into promotion contention in Division Two, following their promotion from Division Three in the previous campaign.

Derby went on to claim back-to-back promotions and the Division Two title in the 1986/87 season with Micklewhite playing all 42 league games and scoring six times.

Micklewhite, who began his career at Manchester United, joined Derby from Queens Park Rangers in 1985 and proved to be an excellent signing as the Rams rose through the leagues and establish themselves in the top flight.

He went on to be a key player under Cox and he made 288 appearances in total netting 43 goals, before leaving for Gillingham in 1993.
