Derby County manager Phillip Cocu has named his first starting line up of the 2020/21 season for the Carabao Cup First Round clash against Sky Bet League Two side Barrow AFC (12pm kick-off).

It is a momentous day for Academy graduate Max Bird, who captains the Rams from the start for the first time.

The 19-year-old midfielder, who captained the Rams twice towards the end of the 2019/20 season after Wayne Rooney was substituted late on in the games against West Bromwich Albion and Birmingham City, will lead the side as Rooney misses out through injury.

Elsewhere, there are starts for fellow Academy graduates Lee Buchanan, Jason Knight and Louie Sibley, whilst Morgan Whittaker is named on the bench.

Under-23s midfielder Josh Shonibare and Under-18s defender Harrison Solomon, who have trained with the Rams' squad during pre-season, are also in the matchday squad and are substitutes.

Defender Mike te Wierik will make his long-awaited competitive Derbby debut this afternoon after signing for the Rams back in February from Dutch side FC Groningen.

Here is the line-ups for this afternoon's game:

Derby County: Roos, Forsyth, te Wierik, Bird (C), Marriott, Clarke, Sibley, Evans, Holmes, Buchanan, Knight.

Substitutes: Ravas, Wisdom, Shinnie, Whittaker, Davies, Shonibare, Solomon.

Barrow AFC: Dixon, Brown, Platt, Jones, Hardcastle (C), Kay, Jones, Beadling, Angus, Hindle, Ntlhe.
