Academy graduate Lee Buchanan has been named as Derby County’s Sammy Crooks Young Player of the Season for the 2020/21 campaign.

Buchanan came out on top in a week-long supporters’ poll, which came to an end on Friday afternoon, on dcfc.co.uk.

Left-back Buchanan, who is 20, enjoyed a progressive personal season as he established himself as a first-team regular after making his debut in the 2019/20 season.

He made 37 appearances in total across the campaign and his performances were rewarded with a call-up to the England Under-21 side for the first time in November 2020.

The defender racked up over 2,500 minutes in the Sky Bet Championship over the course of 2020/21, while he also registered three assists going forward.

The most eye-catching of his contributions in the final third came in January when he delivered a superb left-wing cross for Colin Kazim-Richards to score from close range in Derby’s 1-0 home win over Bristol City.

Buchanan has made 44 first-team appearances since making his senior bow at the beginning of the 2019/20 season.
