TEAM NEWS…

Wayne Rooney is set to shuffle his pack for the game against the Blades and rest a number of senior players.

Like he did in Round One, as Derby overcame Salford City on penalties after a 3-3 draw over 90 minutes, Rooney is likely to give a number of youngsters another chance to impress.

Jack Stretton, Louie Watson, Dylan Williams, Isaac Hutchinson and Jordan Brown are all likely to play a part, while summer signing Ryan Allsop is set to appear in goal once again.

Right-back Kornell McDonald returned training last week following a muscle injury sustained in pre-season. He may need some more training time before stepping up into the squad, but could play some part.

Tom Lawrence (groin) and Festy Ebsosele (knee) have missed the Rams' recent matches against Hull City and Middlesbrough and are continuing to have their fitness monitored.

Striker Colin Kazim-Richards, former Blades player, is now a long-term absentee with an

achilles injury sustained in this month's 2-1 defeat at Peterborough United and he will be out of action for a significant period of time.

Midfielder Jason Knight is out with an ankle injury, sustained in mid-July, which is set to keep him out for between 8-12 weeks.

Polish international midfielder Krystian Bielik, who suffered an ACL knee injury in January, is making good progress in his rehabilitation work but is still not yet in a position to return to full training.

MANAGER'S THOUGHTS…

Manager Wayne Rooney offered his pre-match views to RamsTV afer Saturday's 0-0 draw against Middlesbrough and said: "The Sheffield United game will be a similar team to the one that featured in the Salford City game in Round One.

"I think it’s so important that these young players get minutes on the pitch because they need to be ready.

"We have seen that if we get an injury, some of these players will have to step up so it’s a great opportunity for these players to get minutes in.

"I was delighted when I saw the tie. I think it’s a big game for us to play against another Championship team away from home, that were in the Premier League last season, and it will be a big challenge for some of those lads. I think they are ready to go and show people what good players they are."

MATCH OFFICIALS…

Anthony Backhouse will oversee Tuesday's game at Bramall Lane.

Backhouse took charge of 34 games during the 2020/21 season, producing a total of 107 yellow cards and three red cards.

The cup clash against the Blades will be his first involving Derby in his career as a Match Official.

He will be assisted by David Avent and Simon Clayton on the lines, whilst Anthony Moore has been appointed as the fourth official.

EFL SUBSTITUTE RULES…

The five substitutions rule has been scrapped for the 2021/22 season, the English Football League confirmed in July.

The rule allowing clubs to make five changes, as opposed to the usual three, was brought in following football's restart in June 2020 after a break due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Given that games had to be condensed into a short period of time it was thought beneficial and allowed managers to make as many as five changes in three intervals during a match.

Clubs had a longer post-break between seasons this time around and so the temporary rule has been changed.

Teams will be able to name seven substitutes but only use a maximum of three.

COMPETITION FORMAT…

All Carabao Cup First Round-Fifth Round matches shall be of 90 minutes’ duration and in the event of the scores being level at the end of 90 minutes, no extra time shall be played and the winners shall be determined by penalty kicks in the traditional ABAB format.
