Derby County defender Lee Buchanan is determined to start turning draws into victories as the Rams face a trip to the Coventry Building Society Arena on Saturday to face Coventry City (3pm kick-off).

Wayne Rooney’s side are unbeaten in their last four games ahead of the trip across the Midlands.

That run includes one win, which came against Reading at Pride Park Stadium at the end of September, and three draws.

It’s those draws which have frustrated the Rams in recent fixtures as they felt they should have earned more in terms of points.

Derby returned to action following the October international break last Saturday but could not break down a stubborn Preston North End defence at Deepdale, despite enjoying the majority of possession, as the game ended goalless.

On Tuesday night, they twice surrendered the lead against Luton Town to draw 2-2 at Pride Park Stadium with Tom Lawrence and Jason Knight on target.

Derby have drawn the most matches out of anybody in the Sky Bet Championship this season with seven and Buchanan knows the side need to start turning one point into three when they head to Coventry, who have started the campaign strongly.

“That’s the frustrating thing at the moment,” he admitted, chatting to RamsTV ahead of the game.

“It’s difficult the situation we are in (with Derby bottom of the table after being deducted 12 points for entering administration) but as a group of lads we believe we can move up the table.

“With the performances we are putting in, it is frustrating because we are not getting the results we would like at the minute but hopefully it will come, starting on Saturday.”

He added: “I think we have had a good start. I don’t think you reflect on it too much when you have games coming thick and fast but with the current situation that we are in, we are playing well and hopefully the wins will start coming.”

Coventry, managed by Mark Robins, have enjoyed a meteoric rise through the divisions in recent seasons.

They earned promotion from League Two in 2018 through the play-offs, whilst two seasons later, the Sky Blues were crowned champions of League One after the season was cut short owing to the COVID-19 outbreak.

And their momentum shows no sign of halting as they currently occupy a play-off position in the Sky Bet Championship at the quarter-point of the campaign.

They sit fourth and are yet to be beaten at home this season and Buchanan knows the Rams will need to be at their best if they are to pick up three points.

“I don’t think they have lost at home yet but we are confident going into it as you can see from our previous performances,” he said. “We have a lot of the ball and do well to get to the final third but it’s just finishing it off and being clinical.

“We know it’s going to be a tough game, like every game is, but we have to go there with confidence and play how we normally do to get all three points.”
