Derby County’s Under-23s will take a break from their Premier League 2 - Division 1 games programme when they host Norwich City in the Premier League Cup on Monday night.

The Under-23s will face the Canaries at Loughborough University Stadium (7pm kick-off) and dcfc.co.uk has brought together all the key information you will need to know ahead of the game.

Premier League Cup Format...

Mirroring the format of the UEFA Champions League, the Premier League Cup consists of eight four-team groups, with each club playing their opposing teams both home and away.

It's the first Premier League Cup campaign since 2019/20, when the competition was curtailed in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and it includes Academies from Categories 1, 2, 3 and 4.

Clubs in the third and fourth categories have been competing in qualifiers to join the top-level Academies in the group stage.

Derby County are in Group C alongside Charlton Athletic, Norwich City and Reading and the full fixture list can be found here.

Team News...

Under-23s boss Pat Lyons is likely to have a similar group to call upon to the one that has featured in recent matches, although owing to their first-team involvement some players may miss out.

Midfielder Jordan Brown, defender Harrison Solomon and winger Tyree Wilson (all knee) are out of action but are making progress in their rehabilitation work.

The Premier League Cup So Far...

Derby County’s Under-23s are in fine form going into Monday’s game and are unbeaten in their last five matches in all competitions, recording four wins and a single draw during that run.

Their impressive run of form has taken the Rams out of the Premier League 2 - Division 1 relegation zone and offered plenty of encouragement for the second half of the season.

In the Premier League Cup, Derby sit top of Group C with seven points out of nine at the halfway stage.

A 3-3 draw at Norwich earlier in the season got this season’s competition up and running in September.

That point on the road was followed up with 2-1 home wins over Charlton Athletic and Reading in October and November.

Those results have put Derby’s Under-23s in a strong position to progress to the knockout stage later in the campaign.

Norwich, meanwhile, are bottom of Group C with two draws and a defeat from their three group matches so far.
