Derby County forward Lewis Dobbin was delighted to score his first senior goal in club football against Mansfield Town in the Papa Johns Trophy on Tuesday evening.

The England youth international, on loan from Premier League side Everton, also described himself as gutted that the Rams weren't able to get over the line on the night following a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes, with the hosts winning 6-5 on penalities to claim an extra point in the Northern Section - Group F clash.

Dobbin put the Rams in front midway through the first half with a superb finish before George Maris levelled things up for the hosts on the stroke of half-time.

Neither team were able to find a winner in normal time and the game ultimately went down to penalties with the Stags coming out on top in the shoot-out.

Speaking to RamsTV following the game, Dobbin gave his thoughts on his first senior goal and the game as a whole.

On his first senior goal...

It's an amazing feeling when you get your first goal and especially for this club; it's one I will remember for the rest of my life.

I'm happy it finally came and hopefully this is the start and I can keep going now and get some more.

On the performance...

I think at times it was a bit scrappy and we played into their hands a little bit but at times I did make the runs in behind and the press worked again for us. We're improving every game.

On Paul Warne...

It's good that he's showing faith in me and hopefully I can keep repaying it by putting in good performances in the games and training well.

On his preferred position...

I wouldn't say I have a preferred position, I just like to play football. If I can play as many positions as I can then I have more chance of being in the team.

On Port Vale next up...

We can take some positives from tonight. It wasn't the best performance we've had this season but I think we can go into the Port Vale game on Saturday at Pride Park with our heads held high and full of confidence.
