Derby County have added Norwich City winger Tony Springett to their ranks for the remainder of the 2022/23 season.

The 20-year-old has joined the Rams on loan from the Sky Bet Championship side until the end of the campaign to provide another attacking option at the top end of the pitch.

Springett, who has been capped by the Republic of Ireland at youth international level, completed the formalities of his temporary switch at Moor Farm Training Ground earlier today in time to train with the Derby squad.

The versatile wideman is the first addition made by Head Coach Paul Warne following his appointment in late September last year.

Springett could make his debut in Saturday’s Sky Bet League One meeting with Bolton Wanderers at Pride Park Stadium (3pm kick-off).

Tony Springett In Profile

Born in London on 22nd September 2002, Springett joined Norwich’s youth set-up at the age of 12.

After progressing through the youth ranks with the Canaries and appearing at both Under-18 and Under-21 level, he was handed professional terms.

His first taste of competitive football came in the 2020/21 season as he made two brief appearances off the bench for Norwich’s Under-21s in the Papa Johns Trophy against Plymouth Argyle and MK Dons.

Springett went on to make his first team bow in May 2022 when he came off the bench for the Canaries in their Premier League clash against West Ham United at Carrow Road.

His first senior start followed a few days later away at Leicester City, while he also made a substitute appearance on the final day of the 2021/22 season against Tottenham Hotspur.

In the current campaign, Springett featured twice at first-team level in the first half of the season for Norwich under their former boss, Dean Smith, and signed a new contract until 2026.

A start in the side’s 2-2 draw against AFC Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup in August on home turf, and subsequent defeat on penalties, was backed up by a 19-minute substitute appearance in a 2-2 draw at Sheffield United in the Championship back in October.

Springett’s appearances have mainly come for Norwich’s Under-21s in Premier League 2 this term, and he was most recently on the bench for the Canaries’ senior side under new boss David Wagner in their 1-0 FA Cup Third Round loss to Blackburn Rovers earlier this month.

Although he was born in the English capital, Springett has represented the Republic of Ireland at youth international level and was called up to their Under-18 squad for a three-game tournament in Sweden in 2019.
