Defender Jake Rooney says that he and his family are 'incredibly proud' of the new contract he's earned with Derby County.

It was confirmed that the teenager has signed a new three-year deal with Derby this week which will keep him at the club through until the summer of 2026.

Rooney, who is 19, played 18 times for the Rams at senior level after joining from Burnley last summer.

Speaking to RamsTV during the pre-season training camp in Spain, Rooney spoke of his delight at extending his stay at Pride Park Stadium.

On his new deal...

I'm really happy. It's one that me and my family are really proud of. It's good that it's been recognised by the boss. He's put a lot of faith in me and it's given me a bit of security with a three-year contract.

On last season...

It was really special. I never really expected it coming into the club but I backed myself when I came into the first-team. I think I showed a lot of confidence when I stepped in, especially in big games, so I'm really happy with how it went and I just want to take it into this year now and get more games under the belt.

It's not easy to step into the team with the quality we had and this year I want to look to get in there every week which is going to be tough because there's some great players there, especially ones we've brought in. We'll see what happens.

On the Spain training camp...

It's been good to get away with the lads for a week, it brings the lads a lot closer so I think it's really paid off. It brings everybody together a lot more, you can see people getting closer every day.

On Paul Warne...

His personality is really rubbing off on a lot of the players. He certainly rubbed off on me from the minute I came here. He's got a really good relationship with all the lads so I think his ideas and philosophies are really paying off now.
