Derby County Head Coach Paul Warne was 'really pleased' that his side were able to register their first home victory of the season with a 1-0 success against Fleetwood Town on Saturday afternoon.

A first half Martyn Waghorn goal was enough to ensure the Rams cemented their first three points on home soil in 2023/24.

Speaking to RamsTV after the match, Warne gave his verdict on the performance.

On the first home win...

I thought we played much better against Wigan on the opening day but to be successful you have to win games in loads of different ways and today was up there in an ugly way.

The lads defended the crosses well and this is what League One is like, if you don't get a second the opponent will throw more and more at it.

Overall I'm really pleased and it felt like we just needed to get the win. The senior professionals are giving everything but it's obvious we need bodies in the middle of the pitch. Not having a game in midweek should hopefully help us nail them down.

I thought Jake Rooney did well, Tommo was lively. Waggy I thought should have had a penalty early on. There were parts of our play that I really liked and there was still some decision making that wasn't quite right.

On Liam Thompson's showing...

Football has come a long way in the last few years. If you don't have energy and you can't drive past people then it's difficult so Tommo was excellent today, as was Nat, he was a complete threat. Tommo did really well, Roons did really well too and I thought Curtis Nelson looked a lot better.

On the injury situation...

Unfortunately Birdy has damaged the ligaments in his ankle and he'll be out for eight weeks, give or take. Joe Ward ripped some of the fat pad off his heel so he'll be out around eight weeks, both are freak injuries. Kane Wilson has pulled the tendon off his hamstring and he will be out for eight to ten weeks as well. It's a massive blow and that's why we're asking for the same players to go out, dig in and sometimes showing a bit of fight cant get you a win.
