Derby County return to Sky Bet League One action on Saturday when they make the short trip to Burton Albion for the first away match of the 2023/24 Sky Bet League campaign (3pm kick-off).


The Rams go into the match in search of their first win of the new season following a narrow 2-1 defeat at home to Wigan Athletic on the opening day of the campaign.

Winger Nathaniel Mendez-Laing missed Tuesday's Carabao Cup defeat to Blackpool as a precaution after coming off in the 2-1 opening day loss to Wigan Athletic with a tight hamstring but has trained ahead of the trip to Burton.

Forward Tom Barkhuizen and midfielder Louie Sibley both remain absent with calf injuries for Saturday's game but are expected to return to full training from next Monday.

Head Coach Paul Warne spoke to RamsTV on Friday morning to preview the short trip to Burton Albion.

He said: "The reality is we're coming off the back of two defeats so we need a positive performance even more so.

"Both teams are up for it, both teams have lost both games so it feels like a cup final already and it's Saturday number two."


Winger Nathaniel Mendez-Laing spoke to RamsTV after the launch of Derby County's new away kit to preview the clash with the Brewers.

He said: "I can see that the lads are fired up and I'm sure that that will show on Saturday."


Ticket Details

Derby's allocation of tickets for the short trip to Burton have sold out.

The Rams were handed an allocation of 1,484 tickets for the match, before being handed a small number more earlier this week, and these have now completely sold out. No further tickets will be made available.

Those fans without a ticket are advised not to make the journey to Burton, as they will be unable to gain access to the stadium.

Match Officials

James Bell will take charge of Saturday's clash at the Pirelli Stadium.


Ian Cooper and George Byrne will assist him whilst Richie Watkins is the man on fourth official duties.

Bell was the man in the middle 16 times throughout the 2022/23 season where he handed out 48 yellow cards, two reds for second bookable offences and awarded three penalties.
