Derby County striker Martyn Waghorn has been nominated for the Sky Bet League One Player of the Month Award for August.

Waghorn has been in fine form since his return to the club last month and is up for the award after netting five goals and managing one assist across four games in the league during the month of August.

Waghorn didn't join the Rams until after the opening game of the campaign against Wigan Athletic, making his numbers even more impressive.

His first goal of his second stint with Derby came in the 2-1 defeat to Oxford United before he then netted the winner just a few days later in the 1-0 success over Fleetwood Town.

Of his five goals, the final three came in one game thanks to his sublimely taken hat-trick in the 4-2 victory at Peterborough United. All three goals came in 16 first-half minutes with his hat-trick strike the pick of the bunch, firing into the top corner first-time following a lovely weighted pass from Conor Hourihane.

The 33-year-old faces competition from Wigan Athletic striker Charlie Wyke, defender Carl Piergianni of Stevenage and Lincoln City winger Danny Mandroiu for the award - with the winner being announced on Friday 8th September.

The judging panel for the Sky Bet Player of the Month comprises Sky Sports’ EFL expert Don Goodman; EFL Chief Executive Trevor Birch and Sky Bet EFL trader Ivor Davies.
